Anecdotal evidence indicates that only between 1% and 3% of these cases are brought to conclusion and sanctioned by a court order - for a range of reasons. Clearly, there are a number of blockages in the system which need to be resolved to ensure that debt counselling, as envisaged in the National Credit Act, works for everyone – consumers, debt counsellors and for credit providers. That is the goal that the NDMA has set itself and aspires to realize. In working towards this goal, we need the unwavering support of all our stakeholders - credit providers, debt counsellors and payment distribution agents - but we also need to show results to consumers and that this industry is committed to assisting with fast and effective relief from unsustainable debt burdens.
As a Debt Counselor, Credit Provider, Payment Distribution Agent or other credit industry professional, the NDMA welcomes you to a new era in debt remedy.

Around 130 000 cases of over-indebtedness have been registered with The NCR. The industry estimates this will increase by approximately 8000 per month. |
